I was nine when my gay little ears first heard "Believe." It was all over the radio, of course, but even my tough-guy brother had bought the CD single. I played that disc over and over on my boombox, enjoying the remixes as much as the original. It's hard to describe the spiritual connection I had with that song. Sometimes I'd cry while listening to it. Love was still a foreign concept, but it was something I was becoming seriously interested in. The song's journey through love, heartbreak, and ...

Okay, so here's a fact I didn't know about Cher: she has dyslexia. Seriously. So, when she says in the introduction of *Cher: The Memoir* that it was genuinely hard for her to write it, I totally believe her. And I'm guessing her dyslexia is also why she only narrates part of the audiobook. She starts reading each chapter, but then after a while, Stephanie Block takes over. Block is a brilliant choice, though, because she won a Tony Award for *playing* Cher on Broadway in *The Cher Show* and re...

This was literally me the second the audiobook of *Cher: The Memoir* went to the credits... But seriously, how long do I have to wait for the next one?????If you aren’t a fan of Cher, well, then I probably don’t really want to know you because she’s freaking fantastic. This “Part 1” takes you from childhood right up until the point where an encounter with Francis Ford Coppola after one of her shows at her Caesar’s residency in Vegas convinced her to revive her dream of becoming an actor. And ...

“I’ve been brought down to my knees And I’ve been pushed way past the point of breaking, But I can take it I’ll be back Back on my feet This is far from over You haven’t seen the last of me…” -You haven’t seen the last of me – song by Cher Look at the cover of this book. There is something beautiful about the picture featured to represent Cher’s stage of life for this book, **Cher: The Memoir**. In many ways, it is representative of her-story. Her-story from birth, to family, to Sonny, to Sonny...

Like many others have already pointed out, "Cher: The Memoir" is a standout memoir, truly one of the best in recent memory. Cher gets deeply personal and doesn't hold back, taking us through her family's story even before she came along, which I found totally captivating and insightful. She was always destined to be a star, and honestly, just surviving the abuse and controlling behavior she endured from Sonny Bono starting when she was only sixteen (and he was 28!) is a massive achievement, neve...

I fondly remember watching "The Sonny & Cher Show" with my mom growing up in the seventies. As a kid, I also remember discussing with my neighborhood girlfriends how Cher was the most beautiful ideal when asking each other who was the prettiest celebrity at the time. Thinking back, she was a total icon.I listened to the audio for the first 40% of *Cher: The Memoir* because I found that part harder to get through. It delved deeply into Cher's complicated childhood with her wanna-be-famous mother ...

I love Cher, and reading "Cher: The Memoir" felt like revisiting a history I lived through. My high school boyfriend actually serenaded me with ‘I Got You Babe.’ The book itself is a total stream of consciousness; you can absolutely hear Cher's voice recounting her life, unfiltered and unedited. Yes, I'm glad I read it. But would I wholeheartedly recommend "Cher: The Memoir"? Not entirely. For celebrity memoirs, it's definitely unique, but perhaps not for everyone.

Honestly, *everything* a celebrity memoir should be. So introspective, detailed, and consistently interesting. I feel like I just lived Cher's life. I'm also obsessed with the fact that *Cher: The Memoir* is almost 500 pages long, and this is only *Cher: The Memoir* Part One! If you're looking for celebrity memoirs that deliver, this one by Cher is a must-read.

Absolutely devoured "Cher: The Memoir." It's packed with candid stories from Cher's life, offering real insight into how she became the total badass we all know and love. It was genuinely sad to learn how controlling Sonny was over her life and career. Shocking to hear she had to ask Sonny for every single dollar she spent, and that he dictated how she dressed and who she could even talk to. There's this killer quote in there, "I left Sonny for another woman, me." Loved hearing stories about all...

I remember the start of my Cher obsession like it was yesterday instead of over thirty years ago (ok, Granny, tell us more!). I would sneak my mom’s cassette case and pluck this cassette out – Sometimes I would choose the Cocktail soundtrack to listen to “Kokomo” eleven million times, but it was usually this one. But I digress. As I flipped that little cassette over and over and over, I belted my little heart out to things I wouldn’t understand for years and years. I was obsessed. I knew that som...
